OUR HISTORY
1946
The roots of ECFA go back to 1946, when a newborn baby was found in a paper carton inside the door of one of the buildings at the Moody Bible Institute. Because no Evangelical, Christian agency was ready to receive the child, she was placed in a nearby orphanage.
1950
Faced with the challenge of providing services to women with unplanned pregnancies and Christian homes for children needing adoption and foster care, a committee gathered to consider the matter. By June, 1950, the agency had accepted fourteen children.
1984
Since those beginnings, over a half century ago, the agency has grown dramatically. The first Wisconsin office was opened in the Milwaukee area on May 1, 1984. Due to the dedication of a group of concerned pastors and lay people, they also began providing services to women and men with unplanned pregnancies and placing children needing adoption in Christian homes, both domestically and eventually, internationally.
2019
Every year, ECFA Wisconsin and Illinois staff serve hundreds of children and families through their locations. More importantly, meeting the spiritual needs of those children and adult clients are the agency’s primary concern. ECFA staff are not only trained professionals, but also deeply-committed Christians. The physical and emotional needs of individuals and families are addressed from a biblical perspective.
